Senior Systems Engineer Job Description


Responsibilities in this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Scope, present and deliver successful client facing network projects
  • Mentor more junior engineers in advanced networking concepts
  • Provide escalated support to our internal engineers for client issues by troubleshooting and applying knowledge via helpdesk calls, service board tickets and email requests
  • Record and document work completed and in-progress
  • Travel to and from clients work sites with personal vehicle
  • After hours Escalation support rotation
  • Take ownership of issues and see them through to completion
  • Perform network management activities including but not limited to; Active Directory, Domain Name Server (DNS) services, and Virtual Private Networks (VPN), disk space allocation, active directory, wireless access privileges, network performance monitoring systems, system logs, etc.
  • Creating policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Designs and supports somewhat complex networks using current technologies
    • Multiple servers
    • Multiple locations
    • Multiple server operating systems
    • Managed switching
    • Advanced firewall and security requirements
  • Experienced in ALL and certified in most aspects of their discipline such as:
    • Windows Server 2008-2016 installation, administration and troubleshooting
    • Microsoft Active Directory (Trusts, Group Policy, Login Scripts, etc…)
    • Enterprise NAS/DAS/SAN Installation/Configuration/Troubleshooting
    • Perform network administration activities to include, but not limited to, Active Directory, Domain Name Server (DNS) services, and Virtual Private Networks (VPN), disk space allocation, wireless access privileges, network performance monitoring systems, system logs, etc.
    • Advanced Networking Concepts
    • Configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting SonicWALL firewalls
    • Supporting CiscoHP layer 3 routing and VLAN segmentation
    • ExchangeOffice 365 installations, administration, migrations and troubleshooting
    • Hands on experience with email spam filtering Solutions.
    • Information security best practices and administration
    • Enterprise wireless setup, administration and troubleshooting (Ruckus preferred)
    • VMware installation, administration and troubleshooting
    • Citrix, Netscaler, Xenapp, and XenDestop
    • Mac OS X
    • Dell and HP servers/desktops/laptops
    • Data backups and recovery solutions- Datto preferred
  • Troubleshoots issues with new and existing networks which require senior level involvement
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for all technology related issues within his/her purview
  • Employs skills and desire to mentor other engineers to help the team develop
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Adept at communicating technology issues to customers at a business level they can understand
  • Maintains confidence of sales team in performing pre-sales consultations
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multi-task while still ensuring high quality of work
  • Highly organized with strong ability to prioritize work and work autonomously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great attention to detail and presentation

  • Has held other System Engineer positions for at least 3 years
  • Has at least 8 years of experience supporting and implementing networks of all sizes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field experience
